Time To Focus On Other Things
It is over. Brett won. He has won the battles and it looks like he will win the war when his Vikings grab the NFC North. Well, he will win the war at least this year. Ted Thompson still holds the ultimate weapon in Aaron Rodgers actually leading the Packers to a Super Bowl win. Problem is Thompson can not assemble a competent enough line to keep Rogers upright. Aaron’s career may be lucky enough to last two more seasons with the hits he has been taking.
Anyways, it turns out Brett still has more than enough in the tank to stick it to Ted. He threw seven touchdowns and it turns out plenty of Packers fans still love Brett. So the game is over and the Packers have nine more games to play so can we finally move on from this Brett Favre drama?
Can we finally focus on the issues at hand? For example, Ted Thompson seriously needs to lighten up when it comes to free agency. He should not be like the Washington Redskins. At the same time, he should look at the team that just beat his team twice and see that good teams are built half on the draft and the other draft with a nice blend of key free agent pickups and shrewd trades. With this stubbornness to stick with the draft, Thompson’s career as general manager may not last past two seasons.
Can we focus on who will become the next sports icon this state worships? Right now, my fear is Aaron Rodgers might not live through the season with the hits he has been taking. That leaves Ryan Braun in the running but who knows maybe Prince Fielder does stick around past 2011. Now there is this new wrinkle in this debate courtesy of this young point guard the Bucks have. I know it has been two games but this Brandon Jennings kid really has a lot of flare to his game. He possesses so much potential that if realized people in this state might one day start to care about the Bucks.
By the way, can we now start talking about Bucks season or do we have to wait until this team is actually good or moving out of town?
With the Favre circus moving on to entertain another city, can we finally get ready to talk about the Brewers offseason? It is probably one of the most defining offseasons for this franchise. The long term future of Brewers winning is on the line this offseason. If Doug Melvin can not get the pitching, this town is facing a repeat of the disappointment that was the 2009 season. Do you think fans will come out three million strong for another version of 2009?
Instead, the chatter will probably continue to be how Thompson is a moron for not kissing Brett Favre’s Super Bowl ring. A lot of the Brett Favre lovers would be justified. His team did just sweep the Packers and put enough distance in the NFC North race to pretty much knock out the Packers’ chances of winning the division. Please remember, the Vikings beat the Packers not Brett Favre. That team Brett is on is pretty darn good, almost 1996 good (although the 2009 Vikings actually need a Super Bowl to be able to make a claim as being better than the 1996 Packers). So the Vikings sweeping the Packers was not all Brett Favre’s doing.
So can this state just move on now? People got their chance to boo him or show him their love one more time. The Packers are probably not going to get another shot at Favre. Instead of rehashing the past one more time, let’s move forward and focus on the more important things like should Ted Thompson be fired or not?
