Taking A Break From Brett
So Brett Favre’s Amazing Minnesota Circus comes to town on Sunday. If you thought the hoopla was over the top when Green Bay and Minnesota went head-to-head a couple weeks back, wait until this week. It will probably be more over the top than an episode of Day of Our Lives. Brett Favre returns to Lambeau with revenge on his mind. It would not surprise me to see ESPN move its operations to Ted Thompson’s front door.
I am going to take a break today from the Brett Favre chatter. It’s a Monday and frankly I got a week to write over and over again about the circus that will be in town for one game only. I figure I would do the public a service and go over some other areas of sports that will be overlooked this week.
Like Bucks season starts this week. Talk about a team that can never catch a break in getting attention. Every time you think the Bucks might get the spotlight thinks Brett playing at Lambeau in another uniform gets in the way.
Anyways, Sports Illustrated has Bango finishing dead last in the Eastern Conference. Some true believers think the Bucks can make the playoffs. I think they will not be as bad as SI predicts but they are not going to make the playoffs. Sorry but right now who is going to score the basketball besides Michael Redd and Andrew Bogut? Hakim Warrick is a slam dunk machine but can he especially himself as a solid third scoring option to keep defenses honest against Bogut down low? Plus, there will be nights Brandon Jennings will be amazing. Then there will be nights when he looks like a 20-year old kid who has one year of professional basketball experience. I think we will be in for another repeat of last season. Scott Skiles will coach them up but the talent is still not there to get the eight seed.
Is anybody going to pay attention to the World Series? Considering the Yankees are buying another championship, is it worth it to watch? Especially, since the World Series could be over in November! I don’t know about you but I was done with baseball around mid-September so I think the Favre circus may be more captivating than a Yankees and Phillies World Series.
Let’s see what else will be ignored this week? Both the Badgers and Marquette prepare for the upcoming season. It should be the status quo for the Badgers this season, i.e. competing for a Big 10 title and a dance card in March. Marquette, well, their season ought to be fun to watch just to see how the new kids develop. I can see them pulling off a big upset here and there but in the end a 16-15 record would be considered meeting expectations. It does not mean you should not hope for something better but when you make predictions is better to side on being realistic than hopeful.
Badger football looks to stop a two-game skid when they take on Purdue. Suddenly, that game does not look like an easy win. Purdue is playing some good football and they are talented—just not very deep. So if Bucky can get the run game going, they should be able to leave Camp Randall with a win.
Hmm, anything else I should go over that will probably be overlooked this week? Oh yeah, Halloween and All Saints Day. If you’re Ted Thompson, you better not forget to go to church because if Favre beats the Packers at Lambeau, you will probably want God on your side because nobody else will.
