Week 3: Jon Lyon, Parkview High School

Marshfield Clinic Posted: Sept. 23, 2009

Jon Lyon, of Parkview High School in Orfordville, Wis., has been named Marshfield Clinic's High School Coach of the Week.

Lyon’s Parkview team pulled off a dramatic overtime victory over Evansville last Friday night, winning by a score of 28-27 in the extra period. Friday’s win ended the Vikings’ 34-year winless drought against the Blue Devils that dates back to 1975. Parkview’s 3-1 record has them in second place in the Rock Valley South Conference, and marks the Vikings’ best start since the 2002 campaign.

“The game against Evansville was a tough one,” Lyon said. “It has been a long time since we’ve beaten them, so we were excited to get the victory. We’ve got a great group of hard-working kids who want to improve and help turn this thing around.”

Lyon, who is also the school’s social studies teacher, began his coaching career in 2007 as the offensive coordinator for Rantoul High School in Rantoul, Ill. After spending just one year at Rantoul, Lyon was named to his current position as the varsity head coach at Parkview at the age of 23.

His assistant coaching staff includes Troy Aasen, Bill Marco, Bob Myers, Joe Myers and TJ Stassi.

A native of Urbana, Ill., Lyon played offensive line at Urbana High School under head coach Alec Anderson. After graduating high school in 2003, Lyon played football at Illinois State University under head coach Denver Johnson.

Teh Marshfield Clinic will recognize one outstanding high school coach as their 'Coach of the Week' winner during the 2009 high school football season. Winners are awarded several items and privileges, including a $1,000 donation to the school's football program from the Marshfield Clinic, Green Bay Packers and the NFL.
