Fantasy Football Tips At Your Fingertips
FANTASY TIP #1: Over the past two years, Matt Schaub has completed 66.3 percent of his throws, Peyton Manning 66.2. Matt Schaub: Good starter, great backup! If you want to win your league, you need to have a very good backup quarterback (Hasselbeck, Schaub, Pennington)
FANTASY TIP #2: Hold off on having your draft as long as you can. Position battles, injuries...you could be done before week 1 if you have your draft too early.
FANTASY TIP #3: Brees and Brady are the only QBs to consider with your first pick. Otherwise wait until round 6 and grab Aaron Rodgers - VALUE!
FANTASY TIP #4: If you're debating between Stephen Jackson and another running back, go with the other guy.
FANTASY TIP #5: Michael Turner will have a good year, but the Falcons play the NFC East this season...lots of run stuffers in that division. Turner lead the league in carries last year, but didn't catch many passes...this is noteworthy if your league awards points per reception for RB's.
FANTASY TIP #6: Don't allow a dratftee to draft over the phone. It screws up the rhythm and annoys others. Better alternative - instant message!
FANTASY TIP #7: Trust your instinct and be confident in your picks. Hemming and hawing will give you an ulcer. No one likes ulcers.
FANTASY TIP #8: Check the date on your FF magazine. Rankings shift often from June to Aug. And no, Madden '10 player ratings should not be used.
FANTASY TIP #10: If you're paying to be a part of a league, by all means do not allow the computer to select your team. You'll hate the results.
FANTASY TIP #11: Know the rules of your league. Do you get a point per reception by a RB...bonus points for over 100 yards rushing etc...You need to pay attention to this - the rules may level the playing field between players and/or positions.
FANTASY TIP #12: Come to the draft with full knowledge of which players will start the season on the sidelines with injury or suspension. For example, Marshawn Lynch will be out for the first 3 weeks serving a suspension. Brian Westbrook is beat up...Steve Smith...Brandon Marshall is complaining about being in Denver...do some homework on this - it will save you an ulcer...and no one likes ulcers.
FANTASY TIP #13: Don't discount the importance of a good defense. Often times it's the difference in a win or loss.
FANTASY TIP #14: I have never had ANY luck with anyone named "Jones".
FANTASY TIP #15: Are you in a keeper league? Here are some rock solid draft sleeper keepers for years to come: Aaron Rodgers (OK, he's not a sleeper), Matt Ryan, Darren McFadden, Steve Breaston, Donald Brown, Ted Ginn, Eddie Royal.
That about does it. Now get out there and take your league for everything it's worth. As always, go ahead and send your fantasy questions to matzek@620wtmj.com. I'm happy to rap with you anytime.
Godspeed.
