Former Packer John Anderson Added to Carroll University Football staff
(Waukesha, Wis.) – Headlined by former Green Bay Packers great, John Anderson, Carroll University head football coach Henny Hiemenz announced the final additions to his staff for the 2009 season.
Along with Anderson, Hiemenz completed his 2009 staff with Tim Keane, Kevin Hyland and Brent Allen.
Anderson, who will coach the linebackers for the Pioneers, played 12 seasons as a linebacker in the National Football League after being drafted in the first round by the Packers in 1978, following a standout career at the University of Michigan.
During his four years as a Wolverine, Anderson was part of three Big Ten Championships and was named All-American in 1978. He retired from the NFL in 1989 and was inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame in 1996.
"I've gotten to know John over the past several years through the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and am certainly excited to have someone with the knowledge and experience that he brings to the table joining our staff," said Hiemenz, who enters his fourth season as Carroll's head coach. "However, more important than his accomplishments as a player is his ability to be a leader and mentor of young men. We are excited to add such a quality person to our program.”
Keane, a four-year letter-winner in football at Carroll, will coach the defensive ends, a position at which he earned a pair of All-Midwest Conference honors while with the Pioneers. Following his collegiate playing career, he coached defensive ends and outside linebackers in 2008 at Brookfield Central High School.
Hyland, a graduate of Kent State University, joins the Pioneers staff after three years as an assistant coach at Lakewood High School in Lakewood, Ohio, and one year as an assistant at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa. The new wide receivers coach played at John Carroll University before injuries ended his playing career.
Allen, a 2007 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater graduate, will coach tight ends and H-backs for Carroll. The four-year starting center for the Warhawks was a two-time All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference performer and was named All-American as a senior. Following his senior campaign, Allen was also honored with the NCAA's Division III Remington Award, given to the nation's best Division III center.
"I think all four new coaches share the attributes we look for in our coaching staff," said Hiemenz. "They are hard working, loyal, honest, and, above all, have the best interest of the student-athlete in mind. They will be outstanding additions to our football family and the Carroll community."
The 2009 season kicks off Saturday, Sept. 5 when the Pioneers travel to North Park University for a 7 p.m. game.
