UW-Platteville’s Skemp D3Hoops All-West Region Named Player of the Year

MADISON, Wis. - Four Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) individuals have been named to the 2009 D3hoops.com All-West Region Men’s Basketball Team with UW-Platteville’s Jeff Skemp topping the selections as the region’s Player of the Year.  Also receiving first team laurels were UW-Oshkosh’s D.J. Marsh and UW-Whitewater’s Myles McKay.  UW-Oshkosh’s Dane Seckar-Anderson was a third team honoree.
 
The West Region includes individuals representing the WIAC, Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Northwest Conference and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
 
Skemp earned first team status for the second straight season and he is the first player in WIAC history to earn the region’s player of the year honor.
 
A total of 15 players were named to the All-West Region team (five on each squad) that was voted on by sports information directors in the region.  Skemp, Marsh and McKay were joined on the first team by Andre Wagner of Buena Vista University (Iowa) and Zach Johnson of Carleton College (Minn.).
 
Third team selections consisted of:  Nate Alm of Augsburg College (Minn.), Chris Faidley of Whitman College (Wash.), John Fraase of Concordia College-Moorhead (Minn.) and Ross Nakamura of Whitworth University (Wash.).

Women

Five Claim D3hoops.com All-Central Region Honors
 
MADISON, Wis. - Five Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) individuals have been named to the 2009 D3hoops.com All-Central Region Women’s Basketball Team.  UW-Stout’s Julia Hirssig was a first team selection, while UW-Eau Claire’s Heidi Arciszewski, UW-La Crosse’s Mackenzie Hunter, UW-Stevens Point’s Britta Petersen and UW-Whitewater’s Tiffany Morton were second team choices.
 
The Central Region includes individuals representing the WIAC, College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, Midwest Conference, Northern Athletics Conference and St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
 
Hirssig and Morton were second team picks a year ago.
 
A total of 15 players were named to the All-Central Region team (five on each squad) that was voted on by sports information directors in the region.  Hirssig was joined on the first team by Kathleen Fidelia of Wheaton College (Ill.), Marche Smith of Concordia University (Wis.), Megan Scheele of Edgewood College (Wis.) and Christina Solari of Illinois Wesleyan University.
 
Claire Sheehan of Illinois Wesleyan University was the fifth member of the second team.
